Dotcom reveals plans for new download site

Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom has defied American authorities by revealing ambitious plans to launch a new free download site.

The multi-millionaire internet mogul has laid out his plans to "change the world" with a new 'Mega' service.

In a series of five tweets, he has told software developers to contact him if interested in the new service, which he said will be part of a "massive global network".

His first tweet posted last night states: "Developers get ready. The Mega API will provide incredible powers. Our API and your Mega tools will change the world."

He goes on to claim that all non-US hosters will be able to connect servers and bandwidth.

"The new Mega will offer one-click-encryption of ALL your data transfers, on the fly, easy to use, free of charge, TOTAL PRIVACY!" he said.

"They abused the wrong guy. I am going to turn this world upside down. Power to the people. Bye bye Echelon. Hello Freedom."

Dotcom urged developers to email his twitter account for early access.

The Megaupload founder and three co-conspirators were arrested in January after a raid on his Auckland mansion by New Zealand police, working with the FBI.

Dotcom has been released on bail while he awaits a US extradition hearing, expected next year.
