Woman freed from car after collision with train

A woman has been freed from her vehicle after being trapped in a collision with a train at a rail crossing in Canterbury this afternoon.

The crash occurred at Dunsandel, south of Christchurch, at about 2.15pm, at the crossing on the corner of Fraser's Road and State Highway One.

Fire Service personnel freed the woman from her car at about 3pm.

She has been handed over to St John's ambulance paramedics at the scene for treatment.

It is not known what injuries the woman has sustained.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter, paramedics, police and Fire Service personnel are at the scene.

The woman was the only person in her car and no other injuries have been reported.
