A 23-year-old man has been charged following the assault of
an Auckland police officer early yesterday.
A man was attacked while taking a shortcut home in Wellington
last night, and is now in a serious condition in hospital
with a suspected fractured scull.
Highways in and out of main centres around the country
suffered heavy congestion today as holidaymakers attempted to
make the most of their long weekend en masse.
Police have cordoned off an area between the port of Napier
Brass Band Hall and Napier YMCA after receiving multiple
calls about a mobility scooter and later a body in the drain,
about 10am today.
The sodden South Island is mopping up after a damaging storm
caused flooding and slips across the island.
Predicted heavy rain has hit the South today after winds and
heavy downpours caused property damage and travel chaos in
many areas of the country yesterday and overnight.
