Second arrest after Taita death

A second man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter over the death of 52-year-old man in Taita last month.

A homicide investigation was launched after Michael James Mulholland was found unconscious in a Farmer Crescent driveway by a friend on September 20.

Friends and emergency workers tried to revive him but he died at the scene.

Operation Field inquiry head Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson said a 31-year-old Paraparaumu man would appear in Lower Hutt District Court later today.

A 30-year-old Lower Hutt man was also yesterday charged with manslaughter in connection to the death and was remanded in custody without plea.

"I'd like to acknowledge the assistance of the local community in helping Police to bring this matter before the courts," Mr Thomson said.

"While we can't bring Michael back, we are hopeful that a successful resolution to this case will bring some closure to his family and reassure the community."
