Second arrest after Christchurch home invasion

A second man has been arrested in connection to a terrifying home invasion in Christchurch yesterday.

A mother-of-two wrestled with a masked gunman and tried to shoot him to protect her children.

A shot was fired inside her Redwood home before she was injured escaping through a glass door.

One intruder chased by police turned the gun on them before being wrestled to the ground in brave actions praised by top police brass.

James Carpenter, a 30-year-old labourer from Aranui, appeared in Christchurch District Court yesterday on charges of robbing a woman of cellphone, wallet and keys, and three firearms charges.

And this morning, police arrested a 21-year old Christchurch man after officers executed search warrants at two addresses in the Northcote area of the city.

Sarn Kahui, a baker from Bryndwr, made a brief appearance in court this afternoon.

He is charged of acting with Carpenter in aggravated robbery.

Duty solicitor April Kelland made no bail application and Kahui was remanded in custody without plea until October 11, to appear alongside his co-accused.

Detective Sergeant Chris Power says more people could face charges in relation to the incident.

The 25-year-old mother last night spoke of the dramatic moments shortly after 1am when two men in balaclavas and armed with a shotgun and knife smashed their way into her Northcote Rd home.

"Two guys showed up, smashed my front door window and asked 'Where's your effing partner? I want my 10 grand," she said.

The woman, called Sarah who doesn't want her last name published, said her partner was working nightshift at Foodstuffs when the attack happened.

She thinks the gunman may have got the wrong house.

Her utmost concern was for her children, aged five and three. Her five-year-old son saw what happened.

"I'm very, very sore, and shocked," she said.

"Every time I close my eyes I see it happening in front of me."

Police are refusing to discuss motive for the home invasion.
