A high-speed chase between Hutt Valley and Wellington ended
with the arrest of three teens early this morning.
The drama unfolded when police attempted to stop a suspected
stolen vehicle in Stokes Valley at 2am, Sergeant Pete
Theobald said.
The driver fled from police, leading them on a 25 minute
chase down State Highway 1 into Wellington, reaching speeds
of up to 140kmh.
The chase ended in Ngauranga Gorge when the 17-year-old
driver stopped and ran off on foot.
A police dog helped find him a short time later.
He was charged with driving with excess breath alcohol,
failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and unlawful
taking of a motor vehicle.
The two passengers of the car, aged 18 and 16, were charged
with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
The 18-year-old also had a warrant for his arrest and the
16-year-old was breaching bail conditions.
All three would appear in Lower Hutt District Court today.
