Quake rocks Canterbury

A rolling 4.3-magnitude earthquake has rocked Canterbury this morning.

The jolt struck 15km east of Christchurch, at a depth of 13km, at 11.51am, according to Geonet.

Social media quickly sprang into action with Cantabs recording their experiences.

Deon Swiggs wrote on Twitter: "That will teach me for taking a mid day shower! My first experience at being thrown about in the shower."

One person posted on TradeMe: "Pretty good jolt in New Brighton," while another said, "Was outside hanging clothes and the car-port shook and the neighbour's garage answered with a squeak."

St John had no reports of injuries or any calls as a result of the quake.

A spokesman encouraged people to check on their neighbours and family, especially those who were alone and vulnerable.
