The hunt is still on for a man who sexually attacked a young
girl in Napier.
There have been no further reported sightings of a man and
vehicle seen in the area of the attack on an 11-year-old girl
on the Georges Drive greenbelt in Napier a week ago.
A police spokesperson said after the initial incident had
been covered in news reports, two people said they had seen
possibly suspicious activity in the area near the Japanese
bridge, halfway between Ashridge Rd and Chambers St.
The girl was attacked as she walked along the greenbelt
around 4.30pm.
Constable Steve Leonard said a woman reported seeing a male
fitting the description of the offender driving a white 1980s
Toyota station-wagon that day.
The car had a square back and a black registration plate with
white writing.
The woman told police the car stopped on Riverbend Rd next to
three young boys about 4.15pm on Tuesday.
The boys were seen speaking to the male driver before walking
off towards Latham St.
Another person confirmed seeing a male of similar description
on Georges Drive at the same time as the incident. He was
heading towards Kennedy Rd and looking behind.
The man was described as a Caucasian, clean-shaven, in his
early 20s, of slim build and about 1.7m tall.
He had short straight brown hair and brown eyes and was
wearing a blue checked long-sleeved shirt, black jeans and a
yellow plastic watch on his right wrist.
Mr Leonard appealed for anyone who believed they knew the
offender's identity to call the police on 831 0700 or
Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
