Man accused of stabbing dad to death

A trial has started in the High Court at Wellington for a man accused of murdering a Stokes Valley father earlier this year.

Shayd Robinson, 20, has pleaded not guilty to stabbing to death 27-year-old Aaron Hadfield.

Mr Hadfield was stabbed to death in January near his car as he returned home from picking up prescription medicine for one of his young children.

A jury of six men and six women were empanelled for the trial, which has been set down for two weeks.

About 50 witnesses are expected to be called.
