Mother, son escape Wellington house fire

A mother and son have escaped from a house fire in Wellington this morning.

Fire Service central communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said crews were called to the house in Petone about 4.21am.

The house was destroyed in the fire, which had been put out, he said.

The home's occupants, a mother and her son, escaped the blaze uninjured.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
