A Christchurch man injured in an apparent hit and run early
on Wednesday morning has died.
Warren Noel Blackett, 44, of Christchurch, died at 3.40pm
today.
He had been in a critical condition in hospital since he was
found with serious head injuries about 6.30am on Wednesday in
the driveway of a home in west Christchurch.
A post-mortem examination was to be held tomorrow.
Police were continuing to treat the incident as a possible
hit and run and said it was too early to say if it would be
upgraded to a homicide investigation.
Police were appealing for information from the public about
the man's movements and the events leading to his injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Hill said police were also asking
for two youths seen in the Russley area to make contact.
"A witness that has come forward in the past 24 hours has
reported seeing two youths, both male with fair hair, running
along Yaldhurst Road towards the city in the early hours of
Wednesday morning.
"At this stage we don't know whether there's any connection
between these people and the injuries sustained by Mr
Blackett. We appeal for them to come forward and contact us."
