Forestry worker killed near Dannevirke

A forestry worker died when a tree fell on him in Tararua District this morning.

The accident occurred about 7.15am in a remote forestry block south of Pongaroa, near Dannevirke, Senior Sergeant Dylan Earle said.

The 24-year-old Wanganui man died at the scene.

The Government's labour service is investigating the accident and the death had been referred to the coroner.

The man's name will be released once his next of kin has been notified.
