Three serious crashes in three hours in Hamilton today left
one person dead, one child seriously injured and four people
requiring medical attention.
At lunchtime a 77-year-old pedestrian suffered fatal injuries
when she was hit by a BMW as she crossed Thomas Rd in
Rototuna.
Emergency services were still at the scene when news came
through of four people being treated by ambulance staff after
two vehicles collided in Frankton.
A short time later, about 3.20pm, a boy, believed to be aged
six, was hit by a vehicle in the suburb of Nawton and taken
to Waikato Hospital with serious leg injuries.
The officer in charge of the North Hamilton Community
Policing Centre, Sergeant Juliet Burgess, urged the public to
stay aware around roads and vehicles.
"One moment's lack of attention can lead to tragic
consequences such as we've seen this afternoon.''
