Boy's death treated as suspicious

A Raetehi boy discovered dead in his bed was an active, mischievous kid full of energy, says his uncle.

The body of 9-year-old Antony Christiansen was yesterday lying at Te Puke Marae near Raetihi after his death, which police are treating as suspicious.

The Ruapehu Primary School pupil was found dead on Friday morning. Post-mortem tests were continuing.

Grand-uncle Garth Hiroti said he was at a loss to explain. "All we know is that we have lost a little nephew of ours."

But his nephew was complaining of a sore stomach before he went to bed on Thursday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Borrell asked for anyone with information to call Ohakune police on (06) 385 0100 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
