Police have identified the body of a man found in Tauranga
Harbour on Saturday.
He was a 29-year-old local man.
Police were notifying next of kin before his name would be
released.
The body, found by tugboat staff near Mt Maunganui Port, had
likely been in the water for between one to two weeks, police
said.
A post-mortem examination was to be carried out on the body
today to establish how he died but it was too early to say if
it was suspicious.
Police earlier released a description of the man in hopes of
identifying him.
He was described as Caucasian, aged between 18 and 35, and of
small to medium build.
The word 'scorpio' was tattooed across his stomach, the word
'ford' on his right shoulder, and a tribal design on his left
forearm.
He was also wearing a black T-shirt. On the front of the
shirt was a black star with a white surround and the word
'Tauranga' underneath.
