The northbound carriageway of State Highway One in central
Auckland has reopened after a truck crash near the entrance
to the Victoria Park tunnel closed all three lanes.
The New Zealand Transport Agency reopened the motorway about
3.15pm after the removal of the crashed truck and its
container and a safety inspection. The nearby Wellington
Street on-ramp has also reopened.
The truck and trailer crashed into the back of a stationary
vehicle before rolling just before 1pm, police said. The
drivers were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Fire Service spokeswoman Megan Ruru said one driver was
trapped and rescue equipment was used to free them.
The transport agency says it will take some time for motorway
congestion to clear and it does not expect the motorway
northbound to be fully operational until the end of this
afternoon's peak.
Traffic queues extend about 9km to the Ellerslie-Panmure
interchange and heavy traffic is also reported in central
Auckland.
Southbound traffic on the Southern Motorway is flowing
normally.
