Prescription drugs were found in the system of a 9-year-old
boy who died at his home in Raetihi, police say.
Antony Christensen was discovered dead in his bed on December
7.
"Preliminary results from testing showed prescription
medicine in his system," Detective Senior Sergeant Keith
Borrell said today.
"These are only initial findings and we are not in a position
at this stage to say what caused the death of Antony as we
are waiting on final test results."
The investigation was continuing. Police were working to
establish the circumstances leading up to the boy's death and
his family was being interviewed.
Antony's grand-uncle Garth Hiroti said earlier this month
that Antony had complained of a sore stomach before he went
to bed on December 6.
