Police have issued a description of a man they say followed
an 8-year-old girl and tried to drag her into his car - the
latest in a series of abduction attempts in Auckland.
The incident happened in Mt Roskill on Sunday, December 9,
but was made public yesterday. In another sinister case in
Ellerslie, a 9-year-old girl was led for 50m by an abductor
before she managed to break free.
The Mt Roskill attempt happened as the girl, her 14-year-old
sister and younger brother walked along Stoddard Rd towards
May Rd. They noticed they were being followed by a man in a
car, who then stopped and approached them.
A police spokeswoman said the man - described as Indian,
about 30 years old, of average height and medium build -
first demanded they get into his car and then got out of his
vehicle and grabbed the young girl.
"Her sister intervened and the man got back into his car and
drove off along May Rd towards Richardson Rd. He was wearing
a light blue long-sleeved business shirt with dark blue
stripes, black pants and sunglasses."
Police are still looking for information about the attempt
last week outside Ellerslie School.
The 9-year-old girl, who was forcefully led 50m away from the
school, was unharmed.
