A woman killed in a car crash in Hamilton on Christmas Day
has been named as Rongmei Wang, a 71-year-old Chinese
national.
Ms Wang was a rear seat passenger in a car that collided with
a ute at the intersection of Avalaon Drive and Te Rapa Rd at
12.35pm.
Four of Ms Wang's family members were taken to Waikato
Hospital following the crash.
Police later located a suspended driver who allegedly fled
the crash site - a member of the public followed the fleeing
car and helped officers track its 26-year-old female driver
to an address in Pukete, Hamilton.
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Marcus Lynam said it
was too early to determine fault or say whether charges would
be laid.
Ms Wang's death brings the Waikato road toll to 45. It was
the first death of the official Christmas road toll.
