A man in his 50s is dead after an inflatable raft capsized on the Waiohine River at the foot of the Tararua Ranges this afternoon.
Wairarapa Police said two others in the boat were safe.
The incident occurred near a swing bridge just after 3pm.
Members of the public heard calls for help and contacted police, who responded with the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
A woman made it safety immediately and a second won was rescued just after 5pm by a jetboat.
