Burglar who torched properties in court

A man accused of breaking into three properties in the Christchurch area before torching them, causing $600,000 worth damage, has appeared in court.

Keri Wakefield, 38, made a second appearance in Christchurch District Court today on six charges of burglary and arson of three Christchurch properties.

Police claim the unemployed man's spree last month - at a Lyttelton St house, a Spreydon Baptist Church property and Barrington St medical centre - caused $600,000 worth of damage.

Defence lawyer Kerryn Beaton asked for Wakefield to be remanded in custody until January 22 to enable more disclosure on the arson matters.
