A 32-year-old Dannevirke farmer suffered serious injuries
when he came off his farm bike at Matamau today.
St John spokesman Norm Ngatai said ambulance staff were
called to Centre Rd, Matamau, north of Dannevirke at 10am.
"The man was suffering back injuries and was in a serious
condition, so ambulance staff called the Palmerston North
Rescue Helicopter in to airlift him to Palmerston North
Hospital," Mr Ngatai said.
Dannevirke's volunteer fire brigade deputy chief Pete
Sinclair said the brigade was called to the Matamau farm
paddock to help transport the injured man to the waiting
helicopter.
"The farmer was alert and talking and the country where he'd
fallen was pretty easy, with a lot of long grass," he said.
"Dannevirke Fire Brigade members carried the man between 200m
and 300m down a small hill to a paddock where the rescue
helicopter had landed."
