Police officers will examine a scene in central Featherston
after a man was critically assaulted overnight and later died
from the injuries.
A homicide investigation into the incident has been launched
.
Emergency services were called to a property in Fitzherbert
St just before midnight where a 40-year-old man had received
serious head injuries.
Ambulance staff gave him CPR and he was transported to
Wellington Hospital in a life-threatening condition, said
Central Ambulance Communications spokesman Norm Ngatai.
He died just before 5am.
The area has been secured and a scene examination will begin
with forensic scientists this morning.
A postmortem examination will be conducted in Wellington
tomorrow.

about people or cars that were acting suspiciously, is asked
