A man was run over by his partner four times during a
domestic dispute in Hamilton at the weekend.
Police called to a Fairfield home about 12.35am yesterday
found that neighbours had pulled the woman from the driver's
seat as she tried to run over the man for the fifth time.
She fled but was arrested a short time later and returned a
breath alcohol reading of 980 micrograms. The legal adult
limit is 400mcg.
"The neighbours' actions are commended by police," said
Inspector Greg Nicholls. "They have seen something going on,
assessed the situation and intervened preventing more serious
"Police appreciate people taking assertive action to ensure
the safety of members of their community but only when they
do so without putting themselves or others at risk. It's what
safer communities together is all about."
A 42-year-old has been charged with excess breath alcohol -
third or subsequent offence, assaulting a person with a blunt
instrument and careless driving.
The man was treated for minor injuries.
