A dead sperm whale has washed up on the beach at Paraparaumu,
north of Wellington.
Marine mammal rescue group Project Jonah said on its Facebook
page that the "large, dead whale" was being attended to by
Department on Conservation staff, who were carrying out tests
and taking measurements.
The cause of death was not yet known.
Some locals had gathered at the beach at Paraparaumu to view
the dead sperm whale.
"We wouldn't recommend you approach or touch a dead whale as
their skin will quickly decompose," Project Jonah said.
