A lawyer heavily involved in the Urewera Raids case says it's
now a matter of waiting to see what, if any, compensation
will be offered to those "unlawfully and unreasonably"
detained during the raids.
New Zealand's high levels of child poverty, violence against
women and a proposed law affecting asylum-seekers have been
criticised by a human rights watchdog.
Dominion Finance director Robert Barry Whale - who was
acquitted earlier this year in a case brought by the Serious
Fraud Office - has pleaded guilty and been convicted on
separate charges for misleading investors.
