Dead Kiwi X Factor contestant named

A New Zealand man who collapsed and died while preparing for an audition for Australian TV talent show The X Factor was a 33-year-old from Wellington.

Reports say Edward Andrews had been rehearsing his song on his own while waiting to audition before the show's producers in Sydney when he fell ill.

He was treated by medical personnel at the scene, but died later in St Vincent's Hospital.

His father, also Edward Andrews, told Fairfax his son had been working as a forklift driver since moving to Sydney from Wellington 10 years ago.

The former Wainuiomata College student had a partner and son.

His funeral will be held in Sydney on Wednesday.

None of the Seven Network show's celebrity judges were present at the audition, which was being held to determine which contestants would appear at filmed auditions later this year.
