A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death at a rural Levin property last night.
Police have launched a homicide investigation after they were called to the stabbing at a rural property off State Highway 1, north of Levin, about 8.30pm.
Detective Senior Sergeant Marc Hercock said ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate the local man but he was declared dead at the scene.
Police have secured the property while a scene examination was being carried out.
"Our focus is on the scene examination, and conducting an area canvas to determine the sequence of events that lead to the fatal stabbing," Mr Hercock said.
"We are in the process of interviewing witnesses and are making further inquiries to identify people that can assist us with this investigation."
A post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow.
