Gunman terrorises McDonald's staff

A man with a firearm has terrorised staff at an Auckland McDonald's restaurant this morning in an armed hold-up.

The man was armed with a "long-barrelled firearm" when he demanded money from staff at the McDonald's on Great North Rd at Grey Lynn about 1.50am.

Police would not comment on whether money was taken but said the offender ran off from the store.

The police dog squad searched nearby streets for the man.

A scene guard is in place at the McDonald's this morning, where officers are talking to staff at the fast food restaurant.

Police say more details will be made public later this morning.
