The German tourist who suffered life-threatening injuries to his head and face when his motorcycle collided with a four-wheel-drive north of Wanganui yesterday afternoon died in Wanganui Hospital overnight.

The man, in his 50s, was at the front of a group of 19 German motorcyclists who were touring the North Island.

They were travelling to Taupo when the accident occurred on State Highway 4 near Aberfeldy.
