A person has died after being hit by a train in Christchurch this morning.
Christchurch police are examining a scene between Denton Park and Kyle Park, just north of the Hornby shopping complex.
Police have not yet been able to confirm the identity or the gender of the deceased.
The time of the incident is also not yet known, but police believe it is likely to have occurred in the early hours of this morning.
The incident was called in to police at 9.40am by a member of the public.
Investigators say at this stage there is no indication of foul play, but enquiries are continuing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
The tracks were closed when police arrived at the scene, but reopened around 1pm.
Police are appealing for anyone who has seen or heard anything in the area overnight to come forward.
