A woman was killed and her 14-year-old son seriously injured in a head-on crash in Bay of Plenty yesterday.
Police said the two-car crash occurred on State Highway 2 between Papamoa and Te Puke about 4.15pm.
The 33-year-old driver of one vehicle was killed. Her son was taken to Waikato Hospital, where he was "fighting for his life", police said.
"As she negotiated a moderate left hand bend she crossed the centre line and collided with a van travelling in the opposite direction."
Another 14 year old from the deceased's vehicle, and four occupants of the van aged between 4 and 44, were taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries.
Police are investigating.
