An 18-month old girl has been found dead in a Far North creek.
Kaitaia Police Senior Sergeant Geoff Ryan said the child had wandered a short distance from her home and was found in the Waipapakauri Creek, about 13km northwest of Kaitaia, about 11.30am yesterday.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
