One man is in a serious condition in hospital and another in
custody after a police pursuit just outside Hamilton
overnight.
The pursuit took place in Tamahere, and reached speeds of up
to 180km/h forcing police to abandon the chase, TVNZ
reported.
The pursued car carrying two men later slid across the road
and crashed into trees on the corner of State Highway One and
Airport RD.
It was understood the Armed Offenders Squad used road spikes
to stop the vehice.
The two men in it fled but were later found by police, TVNZ
reported.
Police released a brief statement saying they were dealing
with a "multi-dimensional incident from early this morning
involving a high speed crash of a fleeing driver, drugs and
an attack on a police dog".
Officers were being briefed and a media statement was
expected mid-morning.
