Police are talking to two people after a house was badly
damaged in a suspicious fire in west Auckland early today.
Firefighters were called to the blaze on Tapu Rd in Huapai,
near Kumeu, after neighbours reported a house fire about 2am.
Northern fire communications shift manager Megan Ruru said
the house was well ablaze when firefighters arrived.
"It looked as though there was someone still inside but the
person was later located out of the house."
Ms Ruru said the house was extensively damaged.
A fire investigator was at the scene this morning.
"We've still got a couple of fire trucks there just making
sure that nothing flares up."
Inspector Andy Brill of police northern communications said
police were confident no one was inside the house.
One person police were looking for was found safe and well.
The fire was being treated as suspicious and two people were
helping police with their inquiries.
Firefighters were earlier called to a suspicious blaze at a
house in Mangawhai, Kaipara.
Ms Ruru said the house on Cames Rd was well ablaze when
firefighters arrived about 9.40pm yesterday.
Nobody was inside at the time.
A fire investigator will carry out a scene examination this
morning.
