A child is fighting for his life and a teenager has serious
injuries after being hit by vehicles in separate accidents in
south Auckland today.
A 9-year-old boy was hit by a car on Massey Rd in Mangere
about 5pm.
He suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital by
ambulance, police said.
The serious crash unit is investigating the cause of the
incident.
Earlier today a 13-year-old girl was hit by a truck while
crossing a pedestrian crossing in Great South Rd, Papatoetoe,
just before 8am.
She was in a serious condition and bleeding from the mouth
when ambulance crews arrived, said St John northern
communications team manager Norm Ngatai.
The girl was taken to Middlemore Hospital and has since been
transferred to intensive care in Starship Children's Hospital
where she remains in a stable condition.
It is unclear is she was riding or pushing her bike when the
incident happened.
