Child survives window fall

A 14-month-old girl who survived a two-storey fall this morning had climbed through an upstairs window at a Rotorua house, police have established.

The toddler escaped serious injury after falling from the window of the home in suburban Fordlands about 7.20am.

Police this afternoon said initial inquiries indicated the girl had climbed through an upstairs window, and fell on to a grass area below.

An investigation into how the incident occurred was continuing.

The toddler was taken to Rotorua Hospital with minor injuries and was being kept in for observation, police said.

Police described her condition this afternoon as "well and stable", and this morning conducted a scene investigation and spoke with adults at the address.

They said it would be inappropriate to comment further until their investigation was complete.
