Emergency landing at Auckland airport

A plane forced to land at Auckland airport early this morning had engine failure.

Fire crews were called to the tarmac at 12.45am following reports the Boeing 737's right engine was not working.

A Fire Service spokeswoman said there was no fire and the plane landed safely.

Crews were called as a precautionary measure, she said.

The airport media team could not be reached for confirmation of the airline involved but Air New Zealand said it was not one of their flights.
