A prison van that collided with a crane on State Highway 2 is blocking traffic near Katikati.
The crash occurred about 4pm and a prisoner who was travelling in the Corrections vehicle has been injured, although the injuries were not believed to be serious.
Inspector Cornell Klussien told the Bay of Plenty Times there were no prisoners unaccounted for.
The prison van was travelling towards Tauranga at the time of the crash.
Traffic has been whittled down to one lane.
Emergency services are still at the scene.
