All clear for Queen Street

A package found at a Queen St bus stop which prompted investigation by Defence Force personnel and forced road closures is no longer considered suspicious.

A "concerned member of the public" alerted police at 1pm about the package that had been left at 305 Queen St, near the Town Hall.

Police reported having concerns about the appearance of the package and cordoned off a section of Queen St between Mayoral Drive and Wakefield St to pedestrians and vehicles while Defence Force personnel investigated.

Two hours later the incident was resolved and the package no longer considered suspicious, said police.

It has been removed from the scene for further examination.

Police cordons have been removed and all roads have been reopened.
