Women accused of home invasion

Three Masterton women are in custody following an alleged home invasion on Wednesday night.

Riwia Rimene, 43, Riwhia Peneha, 56, and Lee Peneha, 36, are jointly charged with a series of offences relating to the incident, including burglary, injuring with intent to injure, and wounding with intent to injure.

The arrests follow a police investigation into the alleged home invasion on the east side of town.

Detective Sergeant Barry Bysouth said the investigation centred around an incident in which two females were allegedly seriously assaulted by three others who had broken into the house.

It seemed, he said, that all those involved were known to each other.

The two alleged victims of the home invasion were taken to Wairarapa Hospital.

Mr Bysouth said he wanted to assure the community that the incident was a "one-off "and police held no concerns over the safety of others in the community as a result.

The three women arrested have all appeared in Masterton District Court and have been remanded to a later date, without plea.

A bail application lodged by Riwhia Peneha and Lee Peneha is to be heard in Masterton District Court on Monday.
