Concern for man missing in Waikato

Waikato police are looking for a missing Buller man who has not been seen since leaving a Te Kuiti campground yesterday morning.

Leslie Graham Wright, 63, had been staying in Te Kuiti with a friend and left yesterday to go on a day trip.

"Just where he intended going to is still a mystery with a rail trail near Taumarunui, bush walks on Pirongia and somewhere near the coast past Waitomo all mentioned before he left," said Sergeant Phil Bell of the Waikato Search and Rescue squad..

"So responding staff are having to check car parks and with service providers over an extremely large area, posing significant challenges for the parties concerned."

Mr Bell said police wanted to hear from anyone who had seen Mr Wright's car, a silver 2004 Nissan Pulsar hatchback, registration CHJ965.

He said the car may have left the road in an isolated rural location, so landowners were asked to check fence lines and waterways neighbouring the road for crashed vehicles.
