Man to face trial over Auckland sleepout death

A man charged over the death of a young hairdresser in the sleepout of her family's south Auckland home will face trial.

Karl Eddy, 39, is charged with murdering his former partner, 23-year-old Alicia Jordana McCallion.

She was found dead by her mother in a sleepout in the family's Papakura home on December 11 last year.

Eddy appeared at the High Court at Auckland today where his lawyer Marie Dyhrberg entered a plea of not guilty.

Eddy was remanded in custody to appear again in August for pre-trial applications.

He is due to face a three-week trial in April next year.

Ms McCallion had spoken to family at 8.30pm the night before she was killed.

Less than 12 hours later her mother, Millie McCallion, found her daughter dead with unexplained injuries.
