Arrests over violent home invasion

Police have arrested three men after a violent home invasion and robbery in Tauranga in the early hours of this morning.

Three knife-wielding offenders broke into a house occupied by a 45-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and two children at 4am, police said.

The offenders allegedly assaulted the man and stole money and jewellery. They also tried to steal a motor vehicle at the house.

One of the arrested men was found near the scene by a dog handler, while the other two were tracked to a nearby property, police said.

The alleged offenders, aged 18, 20 and 22 have been arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, threatening to kill, assault and attempting to unlawfully take a motor vehicle.

They are in police custody and will appear in the Tauranga District Court tomorrow.
