Man crushed by car in Timaru named

Police have released the name of a man who was killed when he was crushed by a car in Timaru last night.

Kenneth Arthur Wood (65) of Marchwiel, Timaru, had been trying to remove the oil filter from his car before the accident at his Grants Rd home about 10.30pm.

Sergeant Ian Howard of Timaru police said the Nissan car was on a slight slope and had been propped up with only a scissor jack.

The car toppled off the jack and fell on the Mr Wood, who called out for help.

However, his flatmate was unable to lift the car off him.

Mr Howard said Mr Wood was dead by the time emergency services arrived.

Firefighters used equipment to lift the vehicle off him, but ambulance staff were unable to revive him.
