A middle-aged man was killed after being involved in a collision with a truck near Wellington early this morning.
The man, who was in his mid-40s, was walking along State Highway One near Queen Elizabeth Park, Raumati.
He died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 3am.
The road, which was temporarily closed for the police investigation, has been reopened.
Police warned motorists to expect slight delays as the backlog of traffic from earlier this morning is cleared.
Central Communications Inspector Chris Tate said the truck driver was interviewed last night. Conditions on the road were clear, he said.
