Armed police in Southland were this afternoon moving in to
arrest a 30-year-old Invercargill man at a property in
Balfour, Northern Southland, over a serious assault.
Police said in a statement the AOS was involved as a
precaution due to the possible presence of firearms.
No shots were fired.
Police now believe the man may now be travelling on foot in
the area. He is described as Caucasian, 182cm in height,
medium to solid build with short dark hair and clean shaven.
He is not believed to be a danger to the public but anyone
who sees someone fitting his description should not approach
him but call 111 immediately.
