Police have called a press conference this afternoon about
the death of Halatau Naitoko, the innocent teenager
mistakenly shot dead by a member of the Armed Offenders Squad
A media release said Assistant Commissioner Alan Boreham
would be joined at the 4pm conference by Mr Naitoko's mother
The purpose of the briefing was not immediately clear.
Mr Naitoko's family had won legal aid to sue the police and
planned to seek $1 million in damages.
Their lawyer, Colin Pidgeon QC, previously said they arrived
at that figure after considering overseas cases.
Mr Pidgeon had said he believed Ms Fuimaono had a strong case
because the Independent Police Conduct Authority had pointed
out "serious dereliction of duties" by the officers involved.
