Crime show Police Ten-7 has yielded "invaluable" information
for police investigating an Otaki homicide, however they are
pleading for more witnesses to come forward.
A 24-year-old Hamilton man was charged with murder last month
after the body of 30-year-old Huntly man Edward Tahakura was
found on Otaki Beach on September 12.
Last week's Police Ten-7 show featured the case and an appeal
for three people who gave a hitchhiker a ride.
Detective Sergeant Gary Milligan, who is leading the homicide
investigation, said police received four calls, which while
small in number, yielded "invaluable" information.
"The investigation team are grateful for the information
provided from the public and we are still receiving a few
calls. This shows that the public are keen to help us with
Officers have located and spoken to a truck driver who gave
the man a ride and are looking to speak to two more drivers,
Mr Milligan said.
"These drivers are not in any trouble - we need to speak to
them to piece together [his] movements."
The 24-year-old hitchhiker is described as being of Maori
descent, with a medium build, approximately 1.8 metres tall
and with closely shaven black hair.
