Train commuters in Wellington will face disruptions this
morning with eight trains still off the rails.
KiwiRail yesterday inspected Greater Wellington Regional
Council's entire Matangi fleet of 48, after being advised by
the manufacturer of a possible fault with the locking nut
that joins carriages together.
"As a result eight sets have been taken out of service for
further detailed inspections as the particular component
being checked is slightly out of alignment," a statement from
Tranz Metro said.
"We will have a clearer indication today regarding further
disruptions after speaking to the manufacturer about the
process to get these trains back into service as soon as
Forty of the trains are now back in service.
